A classic story of an innocent and imaginative girl forced to face the realities of life in hiding from persecution in war-time Amsterdam opens at the Studio Theatre in Perth in May.
The Diary of Anne Frank is a stage adaptation of the young Jewish teenager’s actual journal.

Forced to go into hiding after the Nazis occupy Holland, five adults and three teenagers have to share a cramped warehouse attic. There is little food and they are constantly at risk of being detected; no-one can make a noise or use the sink or toilet during the day in case the workers below hear.

“This is really the story of a 13-year-old girl, a once popular and social teen, now trapped in a dreadful situation, isolated from the world, at a time in her life when she is just discovering who she is,” notes director Marilyn Nicholas-Dahan.

The play opens May 16 and runs until May 26, with Thursday and Friday performances starting at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday matinees beginning at 2 p.m.
