Auditions close Dec 21.
Audition Process In preparation for auditions, we are looking for openness as this will not be a “just learn your lines well” kind of show. During the show, there will be movement and singing, relying on the actors to create the mood of each piece, of each character. We simply ask you to be yourself.

We are focused on actors who can sing not just the show’s solo pieces, but hold the harmony parts. We are considering having actors playing a guitar, ukulele or recorder live during the performances.

We are also looking for three singers who will form the backline chorus for the show.

So, our auditions are a private, appointment-only get-together with you at one of our homes. Plan on being with us for 40 minutes: reading, talking, singing, visiting and getting caught up on life.
At the Audition Nothing has to be memorized. You will be asked to read the assigned monologue. You then chose one other to read. Feel free to take them in any direction you want! You may be asked to cold read a short dialogue section. You should be prepared to sing a short musical selection of your choice. If you have selected a song from the show, we will be prepared to accompany you. You will also be asked to sing “Day by Day” which will be accompanied on the piano in the slow and in the rock ballad style. We may take a bit of time to stretch out your voice possibly repeat a short harmony section.

Auditions will be by appointment only starting on October 17, 2026. The final day for auditions will be December 21, 2026, but could end earlier if we have arrived at a full cast. Auditions will most likely take place on Saturday afternoons, but we can arrange other times if necessary.

If by December 21 the show is not fully cast, the directors may choose to hold open-call auditions in mid-January. Callbacks may occur if needed.

The casting will be publicly announced by March 1, 2027.

About the Musical

Let us rise for a reading from the Gospel according to Matthew… to the tune of Godspell! Because you inquired about auditions, we have sent this information package to you by email. Godspell is based on the Gospel of Matthew, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. (Yes, the same composer for WICKED!) We will be using the original version, written in 1971.

In this timeless tale of friendship and love, an eclectic group teams up with Jesus, using a blend of parables, songs, games, and dare we say tomfoolery, to play Jesus’ life out onstage. In this production, Jesus’ charismatic message of kindness, tolerance, and love shines vibrantly and the characters return to their normal life changed, in a new community.

Our theme will even be reflected in our set: “Building a Beautiful City”

Artistic Directors Lara Klymko and Brent McLaren
Musical Director Kevin McHale
Stage Manager Chrystine Williams
Producer Alan Humphreys
Performances Performances will take place at the Studio Theatre in Perth, Friday, July 2 through to Sunday, July 11. There are eight (8) performances with the Saturday and Sunday shows being matinees performances currently planned. Evening performances will start at 7:30 PM. There will be a performance on Wednesday, June 30 at 7:30 PM. Thursday, July 1, will be black for Canada Day. There has been talk about adding one “special” show on Saturday evening, but this is only in discussion and not finalized.
Rehearsals

As with all MTI shows, the scripts and scores arrive two months out from opening night. Rehearsals will be on Tuesday evening and Sunday afternoon and evening. Normally, on Sunday afternoon the musicians will be rehearsing and we may ask individuals or small groups to come to the theatre to sing or handle movement during that time. Sunday evening wil be the company rehearsal time, from 6:00-9:00 PM. Prior to the formal rehearsals starting, we will provide assistance for you with learning the music and memorizing the lines at times convenient to you. We hope to arrive at the workshop essentially off-book.

We will be respectful of your time and not call you to the theatre when you are not needed. We are planning a full-day workshop on Sunday, May 16 to bring the show to life.
