Synopsis
Dancing on the Elephant is a 2025 Canadian comedy-drama film about the friendship between two elderly women who embark on a quest for one last adventure. Nora, a seemingly healthy and independent woman, is involuntarily placed in the Shady Rest Retirement Home by her children after a minor stroke. Feeling trapped and stripped of her identity, she believes her life of adventure is over. She soon meets Edna, a feisty resident with early-stage dementia, who uses a walker and constantly plots to escape what she calls the “fox farm”. The two women realize they knew each other from school, bond over shared experiences, a love of “Fat Archies” cookies, and a mutual disdain for mundane retirement home activities like “Chair-xercise”.

Reviews
“Absolutely amazing and touching film. Really hits that emotional spot and really brings you to the thought of everything is a first and you just have to live it. Had the pleasure of talking to Mary and Sheila after the premiere. Everyone needs to go see this phenomenal film.”

“There’s some Thelma and Louise in there, some Grace and Frankie as well, [and] some Golden Girls.”
