Play Details

Play Stepping Out, a comedy by Richard Harris
Director Jane Stott
Stage Manager Katherine Hooton
Production datesJuly 3 – 13, 2025, 4 evenings, 4 matinées
Details As well as some great character growth and interaction possibilities for the cast, there are six segments interspersed throughout the play where the teacher Mavis (played by choreographer Chrystine Williams) will lead everyone in tap dance steps. The play: two acts and a total of nine scenes, takes place over 5 months (February-June) with the final scene a year later. Each set of dance moves, led and called out by Mavis, will last a couple of minutes and will be accompanied by a pianist who is also a key character in the play. Prospective cast need not be proficient in tap, but they need to be willing to learn, willing to get their own tap shoes, practise on their own time, and to be agile enough to sustain short group choreo sessions. All shapes and sizes and ages are welcome to audition (see cast info for age ranges based on dialogue in play).
Cast required Looking 8 Female Roles, 1 Male Role:
  • Dorothy – single, lives with and cares for ailing mother, government office worker, bicycles to work and dance class, hay fever sufferer, feeds the birds on her lunch hour
