Studio Theatre Perth wants to give the town of Perth a Christmas present, as a heartfelt thank you for all the support everyone has given to this little theatre on the shores of the Tay Basin.  You have stood by Studio Theatre through thick and thin, helped us survive the COVID shutdown back in 2020, and continued to attend our films, musical events and live theatre productions ever since.

We invite you to come to a magical staged reading of A CHRISTMAS CAROL on Saturday December 16 at 2 PM or 7:30 PM.  You don’t need a ticket to get in, and there are no bad seats in our 200 plus seat venue. We are partnering with The Table, and they will be on site to accept all donations (cash, card or debit) that you feel you can afford to give to help them provide delicious and nutritious meals for whomever walks through their doors.

David Bird will be reprising his role as Charles Dickens in his own unique presentation of the beloved classic, A CHRISTMAS CAROL.  David will be in period costume and portray the many characters from the novella on stage.  The stage will be a  beautifully dressed set intended to take you back to the year that Mr. Dickens penned this masterpiece – December 19th, 1843.  Come alone or with a friend or bring the whole family and be prepared to be swept away to the bygone days of London, England.  Meet Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob Marley, the whole Cratchit family including Tiny Tim, and of course – three Ghosts.  Come One.  Come All. Get with the Spirits and plan to make this event a part of your holiday celebrations.

David Bird imageAbout David Bird

David has had the privilege to perform and Direct with the Perth theatre community nearly thirty years.

His favourite novel is “A Christmas Carol”, which he first heard read, over three afternoons, by his Headmaster, when he was nine years old….1968 for those that prefer mathematics.

In 2002 he started a Dinner Theatre reading at the Sharbot Lake Hotel and since then has given the reading every year or performed in a version of the story every year but one, since then. He has come to think of it as a good luck talisman for the following year. He didn’t do it in 2021…….

His love of the works of Dickens is crystallized in this novel, with its masterful descriptive narrative, and appeals to common decency and charity to others, that many who are aware of the story through TV and Movie, may never have had the opportunity to revel in. Every word is Dickens, but it is not Dickens’s every word.

He is grateful for this opportunity to pay tribute to “The Great Author” in his own manner, for Dickens often made public readings of his works.
