“Shepherds” (French title: “Bergers”) is a 2024 Canadian-French film directed by Sophie Deraspe. The story follows Mathyas Lefebure (Félix-Antoine Duval), a Montréal copywriter who, after a health scare, abandons his urban life to become a sheep herder in the French Alps. Despite his lack of experience, Mathyas is determined to embrace this pastoral lifestyle. His journey is further enriched when Élise (Solène Rigot), a civil servant inspired by his tales, joins him. Together, they face the challenges of shepherding, accompanied by a border collie and a flock of 800 sheep.

The film offers a realistic portrayal of the hardships and beauty of rural life, capturing the transformative power of nature and the human spirit’s resilience

With breathtaking cinematography that captures the raw splendor of the Alps, Shepherds is a meditation on resilience, solitude, and the transformative power of nature.

“Shepherds” has garnered significant acclaim, winning the Best Canadian Film award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and being named a finalist for the Rogers Best Canadian Film Award by the Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA).

Additionally, lead actor Félix-Antoine Duval received the TFCA’s Outstanding Performance in a Canadian Film award.
